February 21 2000 - New Shit Out
Ok, here it is (a groove slightly transformed). Five great new songs for y'all. Listen to a kind of a "sneak-preview" with reduced quality here. The actual "hi-fi" version will be available at MP3.COM within a few days. And of course you can (and should) acquire the genuine "BlanketIII" cd from us as soon as we figure out the packing and all (about one week should do the trick). Until that, listen to the songs and enjoy! U Rok.
February 8 2000 - New Rok in the Can.
Long time no hear. Well, things are certainly looking better in the Blanket camp. Our record label, IFC is getting off it's feet and Blanket just finished the recording of the some new phunk. The new stew will be mixed next monday and we hope to have at least the mp3's out during or right after next week. The new members, bass player Simo "MacGyver" Särkkä and drummer Willi "Knight Rider" Messmer have brought a new work ethic to the band and we hope for good things in the future. Lots of gigs for the spring semester are in the plans. We'll let u know when we know more. Until then, watch for the new stuff next week, stay positive.
November 26 1999 - Rok City Success!
Wowee! We'd like to thank you for making the first ever
Kyläsaarirok! a night to remember! Everything wen't almost better than
we could of hoped for and we look to do it all over again in the future.
We would like to thank the bands, G.A.S., who amazingly showed up on a
few days notice after Jams had - not surprisingly - chickened out. Also
a huge thanks goes to the excellent ULMALA, who came out, helped us make
the place look like a club, brought some vital gear (and a crowd) and
played a dynamite set. Most of all, we'd like to thank our friends and
relatives who courageously showed up at a fairly remote practice space
on a cold Finnish night, and packed the house with a great _positive_
vibe. Thank You Kindly!
Blanket's performance at the
Kyläsaarirok festival was sadly the last one with it's original line-up.
Bass player Sami and drummer Antti have decided to leave the band to
concentrate on other life stuff. The remaining two wish Sami and Antti
the best of luck in the future and are still committed to push on with
music and a strong message with new musicians (as soon as we find some).
We hope this turns out good for all the parties involved. Take care
people.
Also, the words (strong social commentary) of two new songs, Waterbed and Fuck Nato have been added to the Lyrics-R-Us page. Please enjoy.
November 9 1999 - More Info on Live Rok!
The Village Island Rok City Festival is confirmed for the 20th of November and we are lucky to have three great young bands, JAMS, Blanket and Ulmala in the line-up. Also talk of a very special surprise guest has been in the air! The address is Kyläsaarenkatu 8 (in Helsinki East Side) and the doors open at 2000 hrs. You can find the directions, map or two and more info on this great event at it's homepage at the IFC server, just CLICK HERE! (the pages are in Finlandese). Anyways, hope to see you all there! You won't want to miss this.
October 29 1999 - When the Fruit Companies went Independent!
Helou folks. Things kinda slow in the Blanket camp, but starting
to get alive as we activate ourselves to fight the sucky weather.
Uprise! To avoid following many of our generation to the grim
world of apathy, skeptism and sitting-at-home-and-waiting-for-something,
we decided to get active ourselves. The first step was to start a record
label of our own, which proudly carries the title, Independent Fruit Company! The
idea of the label is to make life easier for young and fresh bands, and
hopefully get some kind of group effort going as we hope to sign a few
other bands - besides Blanket naturally - to the label. We're just
starting out, and we don't quite know what we're doing, but this is the
only and best way to find out and learn, so it going to be all good.
Stay tuned, it might get crazy.
Mark your calendars! To follow along in this "do-it-yourself"
-mindset, we are arranging a club night, Village Island Rok!, for the
20th of November in our practice space in Kyläsaari, Helsinki. Two great
young bands, Blanket and Ulmala, are already booked for the night and
we're still looking for one band more. The night is a free-admission,
all-ages, for-our-friends type-of-thing, Agricultural Light and Magic
will hopefully be handling the lighting and stuff, and we hope to get a
fun and relaxed night together. (it's surprisingly hard...) We'll let
you in on the details when we know more.
Independent Net Radio! We're pretty excited about our plan to
hold our own radio show on the internet! We noticed that we have all the
necessary hardware and a whole bunch of music we'd like to share with
y'all. The idea of the free radio transmission is to relax for a few
hours, play some of our music, practice tapes and more official stuff,
play some of our friends' music and good music in general, talk some
shit in between and send it out to the net so anyone with a net
connection and a RealPlayer can listen
in. We'll probably also be recording the whole stint and playing it over
and over for a few days, so that the tedious time-zone-thing doesn't
become too much of a drag. As usual, we'll let you know when we get the
details, like dates and stuff, sorted out. Stay active!
September 20 1999 - Rok Reviewed (and Emperor's new clothes)!
The review of "promo2" (the promo version of "2", duh) has been
translated and added to the Press page. Read.
Also, a whole bunch of New Blanketed T-Shirts have been added to the Blanket Fan Gear Page. Now is your big chance to
be the coolest cat in your hood wearing a funky-ass-t-shirt. Go and BUY!
And in other news, we are currently planning on going to record some new
heavy metal music in a studio sometime soon now. 2-4 songs should be the
amount. So stay tuned for info on that. And we're still looking for
places and parties to play, so contact us if you're in need for some
fierce pulsating background music.
And still, Tepo added us to the other major mp3 site, Riffage.Com. Click ON THIS to see our page
there. It has some cool features like the ability to review and rate
songs online. Go now.
August 10 1999 - Pages Updated Again (and fuck NATO too).
The Photos section has been re-arranged,
so it's easier to load (he said 'load') with a slow net connection. (we
think of everything)
Teponall is still keeping us on the edge of net technology with the
Blanket WAP pages. (if you don't know what WAP is, wait a few months and
you will)
And I would like to start a competition of some sorts. I need your help
on inventing new bitchin' phrases that make out the word NATO. Like:
New Age of Totalitarian OrderYou get the idea. Make up a few good ones and e-mail 'em to me and you might win some stuff or something. (if a miracle happens and someone outside the band answers, I'll come to your house and give you my car)
Nation After Total Oppression
North American Territorial Obesity
August 2 1999 - Pages Updated (and like stuff)!
At last you are able to take a closer look at the rest of the
members of this wonderful band. The meet Teppo
and say Hi to Ville pages have been added
and all the spelling has been checked. Funky. (if you would like to meet
the band more personally, just call Jussi 040 5455597 and we'll come
over to your house and hang)
Also the Places we've fuckin rocked page has
been (somewhat) updated to include dat smokin Oranssi Gig we did last
month.
July 15 1999 - Blanket In Flesh!
Ok. The Gigs! Page has some more info
about that up-coming live show at the Oranssi Club. Hope to see you
there.
And oh yeah, the resurrected Shamil got
some more Blanket Baseball Caps with a frog
on the front and a Blanket embroidery on the back. I'll try to get a
picture of the damn thing up sometime soon now.
July 5 1999 - Live Gig Coming Up!
What the hell? Now, this is super-cool. To end a long drought, we have a live gig booked at the fine Oranssi Club in Helsinki on Friday July 16th 1999. More info to come...
